About this view

Football league rankings — goals, xG, cards & corners side-by-side

The Overview view ranks all 1,200+ football leagues across the four headline metrics that define a competition's character: goals per match, expected goals (xG) per match, total cards per match and corners per match. The highest-scoring leagues typically clear 3.0+ goals per match; tactical, defence-first competitions usually sit between 2.4 and 2.7. Card averages range from under 3.5 in calm, possession-heavy leagues to 5.0+ in physically intense ones. Corner counts cluster between 9 and 11+ per match depending on how wing-heavy the league is. Click any column header to re-sort and see the live ranking for that single metric.

Use the time period filter to compare a league's whole-season averages against its last 5, 10 or 20 matches. Form swings, weather changes, squad rotation and tactical pivots show up first in short-window data — power users compare both windows before drawing a conclusion. The Hide-empty toggle keeps the ranking focused on leagues with actual data for whichever column you're sorting on.

Every league row links into the league detail page, where you can dig into the standings, recent fixtures and team-level form. The four other view tabs — Markets, Scoring, Discipline and Attacking — re-shape the same dataset around a more focused set of columns for that lens.

Glossary

What each column means

Goals/Match
Average total goals scored per match across the league. Higher values point to attacking, open football.
xG/Match
Average Expected Goals — the model-derived quality of chances created per match.
Cards/Match
Average yellow + red cards combined per match. Reflects refereeing strictness and physical intensity.
Corners/Match
Average corners awarded per match. High counts hint at width-heavy attacks and crossing volume.
Progress
Season completion percentage. Early-season averages are less stable than late-season ones.
Rank
League quality tier on a 0–5 scale, based on UEFA coefficients and global competition strength.
Methodology

How these league rankings are calculated

Every number on this page is computed from real match data — no estimates, no opinions, no model predictions.

  1. Data source. Match results, shot data, card and corner counts are aggregated from sports data APIs and processed through our statistical pipeline. Every average shown is computed directly from match-level data, not estimated or modelled.
  2. Calculation. Per-league averages are totals divided by matches played in the selected window (Season / Last 5 / Last 10 / Last 20). xG is sourced from a calibrated shot-quality model, not derived from match results.
  3. Refresh cadence. League averages re-aggregate within a few hours after each match completes — refreshed continuously through the matchday but not live. The Period filter (Season / Last 5 / 10 / 20) re-windows the calculation immediately.
  4. Limits. Early-season averages (under 5 matchdays played) are noisier than mid-season values. The Progress column shows season completion percentage so you can weight rankings accordingly.
FAQ

Football league rankings — frequently asked questions

Which football league has the most goals per match in 2026?

Goal averages shift season to season and across leagues. The highest-scoring competitions typically clear 3.0 goals per match, tactical defence-first leagues usually sit between 2.4 and 2.7, and the lowest-scoring top flights can dip below 2.0. The live ranking moves week to week — sort the Goals/Match column on this page to see which league leads right now across all 1,200+ competitions.

How are these league averages calculated?

Every average is computed from real match data across the time window you pick (whole season, last 5, 10 or 20). We aggregate per match so leagues with different fixture counts can be compared on equal footing.

How often is the data updated?

League averages refresh continuously through the matchday. Stats from a completed match settle within a few hours of full time, so by the next matchday every column reflects the most recently played games.

Which lower-division leagues have the best statistical coverage?

We cover 1,200+ leagues across 150+ countries. Top European and South American competitions ship with the full advanced-stat set — xG, BTTS, cards, corners, home/away splits. Smaller and lower-tier world leagues ship with the core ranking columns (results, goals, basic averages); advanced metrics are filled in as data becomes available. Use the league picker to filter to a specific country or tier.

Why ProBettingHub for league statistics

Three reasons analysts pick this dashboard for cross-league research — especially since FBref restricted its advanced data in January 2026.

1,200+ leagues, one ranking

Premier League next to Saudi Pro League next to J-League. Every major competition the world plays — from UEFA top flights to South American Primeras to Asian Super Leagues — ranked side-by-side on the same metric in seconds.

Every metric, every column sortable

Goals per match, xG, cards, corners, BTTS, over/under thresholds and home/draw/away splits. Click any column header to re-rank all 1,200+ leagues by that metric. Switch the period filter to compare whole-season averages against last-5, last-10 or last-20 windows.

Stats, not picks

We don't sell predictions and we don't push tips. We surface the raw league-level numbers — xG, finishing efficiency, defensive consistency, refereeing intensity — so you can read each league for what it actually is, not what someone wants to sell you.
